The build quality and the simplicity of the Silver Reed EX-42 is what makes it so good.

Still, it irks me that I don’t have an EX-44 (or EX-43N), when I have two options that are only applicable to those models :
- A Memorymatic M44 expansion device
- An I/F 44 Interface for communications with computers
The EX-42 lacks the necessary connector port on the front-right of the typewriter:

The Memorymatic M44 device provides an additional 6K of memory that can store up to 6000 characters (including characters, spaces tabs, carrier returns, silent characters and other functions).

MEMORY and PRINT operating modes allow text to be recalled and printed in its entirety – or printed line by line to allow for the correction or insertion of characters.
As of June 1982 it was high-tech.
