Headquartered in Suwa, Nagano, Japan, Seiko Epson Corporation (セイコーエプソン株式会社) is a Japanese electronics company and one of the world’s largest manufacturers of (inkjet, dot matrix and laser) computer printers.

According to ribbon listings, available  models comprised:

  • Elite 100, 100 Plus, 300, 300 Plus,
  • Expert 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500

… a list of EPSON typewriters that could be extended to include the EPSON HX-20 (HC-20), arguably the world’s first (1982) handheld computer, and arguably a typewriter …

An extended (ScanPAC/Epson) version of the  HX-20 is catalogued by Museums Victoria:

“Epson talking typewriter acquired from the Royal Victorian Institute for the Blind Collection, Victoria, Australia, manufactured by Epson, United States of America, in the 1980s. The typist could hear the message and check that it was correct. Used by visually impaired people who could not read Braille.”

  1. Added “Epson” as a brand at TWDB, and refiled your machine. (:

  2. I don’t recall seeing an Epson daisywheel printer although I may have. Seems dot matrix was much more popular, especially the Panasonic 29 pin. I do know I never saw the HX-20.
