Frans G Bengtsson (1894-1954), one of Sweden’s best-known writers, studied literature and languages at the University of Lund. He was also interested in history and completed a historical biography of Charles XII (the King of Sweden from 1697 to 1718) in 1936.

Bengtsson wrote his best-known work, the Viking novel The Long Ships, between the years 1941-1945.
